Several years ago I took some photos at the National Folk Music Festival held in Richmond, VA, that year. One of the features was a fashion show of a tradition in the African American community of fancy hats worn for Sunday services, or, as they were called at the festival, “crowns.” There were several on display in a booth but later in the afternoon several women put on a bit of a fashion show waring their Sunday best hats. Here are two of them.
