Joshua Tree National Park exceeded my expectations - it was beautiful and still and full of interesting rock formations (No u2 however), and a nice hike that led to a lake, just an amazing place. It was pretty hot when we were there but not even close to what it is in the summer. Nice towns close and an old western movie/TV town that was fun to explore.
